HISTORY OF DU
The University of Delhi in the year 1922 was formed by the ‘Act of Central Legislative Assembly’ of India in the British era as a unitary, educating and a private college. Initially, this University was called as the Prince Charles University but Raj Kedarnath who was the instructor of the Chief Commissioner of Delhi and also the organizer of the du Ramjas College defended that Prince would get upset if the college ought to come up short. ‘Hari Singh Gour’ performed as the 1st Vice-Chancellor of the college from the year 1922-1926. At that time only four universities located in Delhi. Zakir Husain College was established in 1692, Ramjas College in 1917, St. Stephen’s College which was established in 1881, Hindu College established in 1899, in this way they were partnered to the college. The college had two resources at a time ie- Arts and Science and about 750 understudies.
In 1911 India during British era had moved from Calcutta (which was the centre of the nationalist movements) to Delhi. The Vice Regal Lodge Estate turned into the habitation of the Viceroy till October 1933.
